TYPE 1 DIABETES

• The immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells (beta cells) in the pancreas.

• Result: The body can’t produce enough insulin — the hormone that helps control blood sugar.

TYPE 2 DIABETES

: Insulin resistance.
The body still makes insulin, but the cells don’t respond to it properly. Over time, the pancreas can’t keep up, and blood sugar levels rise.

You can have high blood sugar even if you don’t have diabetes.

Normal blood sugar control

Your body uses insulin (a hormone from the pancreas) to move sugar from your blood into your cells for energy.
When this system works well, your blood sugar stays balanced.

BUT SOMETIMES YOUR BLOOD SUGAR CAN RISE TEMPORARILY EVEN WITTHOUT DIABETES

Eating a lot of sugary or refined foods at once (like soda, pastries, white bread).

If high blood sugar happens often or stays high for long, it could mean your body is starting to lose control of blood sugar — a stage called Prediabetes.
That’s the early warning sign before Type 2 diabetes develops.
